HostGator.com Review

Hostgator.com is one of the most popular website hosting companies. They claim to host millions of domains (websites).
Hostgator was recommended to me after I was looking for a host where I can host multiple domains under one account. Since I do have many sites, it makes sense to pick a hosting plan where I can have many domains under a one price account.
So I went to the pricing page of HostGator and check out the plans they had. They have 3 plans: Hatchling, Baby, Business
The Hatchling plan comes with unlimited disk space and unlimited bandwidth but is only limited to one domain. It costs just $4.95 a month which is a good price. Since it was limited to just one domain, I skipped that one over.
The Baby plans includes everything the hatchling plan has but you can host unlimited websites on it. It only costs $7.95 a month so I picked that plan.
A quick look at the business plan reveals that the only difference between the baby and business plan is that on the business plan you get a dedicated IP for free, Private SSL and your own toll free #. That sounds nice if I indeed was taking phone orders or needed SSL. Since I don’t I got the baby plan for just $7.95.
I proceeded through the order. I already had a domain name so I used that instead of purchasing one from there. After all, I was looking for a place to host many domains under one account
So I got through ordering and waiting for my account to be setup. It took no more than 15 minutes before I got the email telling me my account had been setup and I could start using my account. If you don’t know how to move your site from one host to another, Hostgator can do the move for you. However I am experienced in this so I did it all myself.
I encountered no problems moving my site over and updating my domain to point to the hostgator servers. This website, nofuzzzmarketing.com is still residing where it has always been. I don’t plan on moving it around until it is necessary so those of you trying to dig around where this website is hosted, it is not at Hostgator. Reason being, I have a server colocated and have dozens of websites there. However, since I link to and from websites, I picked up a Hostgator account to push some websites over there and make it better for SEO.
I have been with Hostgator for several months now. I have never had a problem, until recently…
I pay my hosting costs via PayPal subscription. This month, July, 2009 my payment was made but then I got an email stating I had not paid yet. I quickly sent a reply back to that email and told them my subscription paid them a day before they sent the email. They checked and they couldn’t find my subscription payment so they asked for the receipt number. After I sent them that, all was cleared and got sent an invoice where the balance is 0. This whole thing was cleared up in less than an hour. They replied back quickly but since I was busy, I took my time replying back or else I think the problem would have been solved in about half an hour.
That’s a testament that their support service is lightning quick. So that’s the only problem I’ve had with them. It was solved quickly and they apologized for the inconvenience. This is the digital world so there’s an error or two that’ll happen.
Overall, I am highly satisfied with them. None of my websites have been offline ever since I moved them over to Hostgator. They sent me two noticed, one where they upgraded the version of PHP on the server I was on and also a notice stating they were going to upgrade MySQL. Everything went fine, no data loss and honestly, I didn’t notice any of my websites down so they probably had a backup running while they did the upgrades.
I recommend you try out Hostgator. They have been great with me. I have been with other hosts, a short list of them are: Parcom, Godaddy, Hostonce, Liquidweb and couple others. None have been as good as Hostgator. Check out Hostgator’s plans here: HostGator.com Hosting Plans
